Starrett have a leading range of single column Force Measurement Systems (FMS) from 500N to 5KN for measuring tensile as well as compressive loads for a range of products including: engineered products, components and springs etc. A dual column range is also available with load capacities extending to 50KN.
The software and testing system controller supplied with the system is based on the innovative L-series of software products from US software developer and Starrett partner – Metlogix. The software is available in both the standard L2 version for simple tests and the development of more complex testing routines with the built-in Test Builder module to the L2 Plus force analysis software package which allows users to further analyse the test data and outputs.
Spring Testing Software
A spring version of the Metlogix software, called S2, is available on all of Starrett’s Force Measuring Systems and this products has been developed to specifically handle the collection of data required for testing and analysing spring performance and design parameters.
Starrett FMS Range
The Starrett FMS range of testing products ranges from 500N to 5KN loads using a single column testing frame as well as models up to 50KN in a dual column configuration. An abbreviated version of the technical specifications for all of the models in the range is as follows:

L2 and L2Plus Software
L2 Systems operate using a Windows®-based tablet PC. Load, distance and time based results are displayed in a large format for easy interpretation. Graphical representation of each test can be displayed. Data tables display results with tolerance and statistical calculations. Standard reports are included, or export data for use with other applications.
The L2 software features test templates that require minimal operator setup in order to perform routine test methods such as push/pull to limit, push/pull to break and for determining peak results. For more complex, multi-stage test methods or methods that must comply with international testing standards, the L2 software is supplied with Starrett’s exclusive Test Builder application.
The Starrett L2 Plus Series software is designed for advanced force measurement and analysis, used with FMS and FMD Series force testers. It has been optimized for quality control and engineering personnel. Operating on an all-in-one L2 Plus Workstation, it can be use for tensile, compression, cyclic, flexural, peel, friction and shear testing.
Test setup is easy and graphical. Tests are created using a suite of test step types with each step having attributes that you configure including limits, step speed, etc. Once your test is created, you perform the test and L2 Plus displays a large graph of your test data. Next, use the many analysis tools to measure and display results, e.g. points, slopes, minimums, maximums, peaks, valleys, averages, rates, etc.

The L2 controller and software package for the Starrett FMS allows users to develop their own series of tests – quickly and easily using the Test Builder module of the software. Other tests that are easily developed in the L2 Test Builder package include: creep, cyclic testing, adhesion, shear and crushing tests.
